Let’s go over a few common file formats and their limitations-keep in mind that a file format might be able to hold a larger image than your program can read. Sometimes it is confusing to figure out what is a program limitation and what is a file format limitation. Other programs will have their own image size limitations. This is probably a limitation of Camera RAW, the engine underneath Lightroom’s hood. For example: 32,000 x 16,000 is the largest 2:1 equirectangular spherical panorama you can work on in Lightroom and fit under 512 megapixels. Lightroom also has a silly limitation of 512 megapixels for an image regardless of the longest side, which makes things very frustrating for a panoramic photographer. Lightroom is a lot more restrictive at 65,535 pixels along the greatest side. Photoshop internally supports a maximum image size of 300,000 x 300,000 pixels or 90 gigapixels (assuming you have enough RAM!), but very few file types support this insane size. Let’s talk about application limitations first. Photoshop & LightroomĪpplications and file formats both have their own set of limitations when it comes to pixel dimensions and file sizes. ![]() ![]() I thought I’d share a few things I’ve learned while dealing with such large images that might help other panoramic photographers struggling with poorly documented limitations of various file types and their compatibility between common applications. ![]() I’ve been working with some very large 5+ gigapixel panoramas lately. ![]() ![]() ![]() All new hardware, all new software, makes this thing all the better. ![]() ![]() Rappers quickly jumped into the mix to keep the crowds going all night. With new party music, break dancing was the first aspect of the culture to blow up. Hip-hop as a culture began in the neighborhoods of the Bronx in New York City in the 1970s at house parties.Įarly DJs like DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash played breaks in soul and funk music that emphasized the drums and bass line of which Kurtis Blow later let us know. As artists started to garner more widespread attention in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the idea of hip-hop fashion became mainstream, but in reality, it brought a spotlight to how young urbanites were already dressing. Hip-hop fashion was a part of urban life before hip-hop began. Hip-hop fashion, with its brazen attitude, made it possible for you to wear and do what you want. The person wearing the clothes makes them hip-hop, not the other way around. In some ways, this has blurred the lines between what was considered classic hip-hop fashion and mainstream style today, but hip-hop is a state of mind. However, a new era of hip-hop and high fashion was ushered in as hip-hop artists gained popularity in the 21st century. Casual activewear and sneakers still dominate think of recent collaborations between hip-hop artists and major sportswear brands. Half a century later, hip-hop fashion, although certainly more mainstream, remains largely the same. It was a mix and match of accessible clothing, dressing it up, and exploring new ways to wear it with pride. The fashion of the time blended ingenuity with streetwear. Baggy clothing was big, likely due to the ill-fitting nature of inner city hand-me-downs. Puma, Chuck Taylors and Pro-Keds dominated the sneaker scene. The origins of hip-hop go back to the 1970s, and the fashion reflected streetwear that kids in the Bronx already had in their possession, like bomber jackets, tracksuits, and sneakers with oversized shoe laces. Hip-hop is not only a genre of music, a form of dance, or a way of dressing.Įmerging from the Bronx in New York City, the hip-hop lifestyle – with its music, DJing, dancing and graffiti – provided an escape from a myriad of societal, economic, political, and cultural forces. ![]() ![]() On Friday Carlsen had a near-miss against Aditya Mittal and on Saturday he found himself in deep trouble again against Erigaisi. “I thought my performance yesterday (Friday) was maybe the worst I’d played on one day on the Tour… Today (Saturday) wasn’t great either, but it was a little bit better,” said Carlsen. ![]() The young Indian star went on to close out the win.Ĭontrary to the anti-climactic Julius Baer Generation Cup final where Erigaisi virtually collapsed against the world champion, the Indian stayed cool and calm on Saturday.Įrigaisi said afterward, “That (the win) felt really good, I was really happy with the game.”Ĭarlsen, playing from a log cabin in Are, Sweden, immediately bounced back to beat Erigaisi’s fellow Indian Vidit Gujrathi in Round 8 and end the day in joint-second on 16/24 with the exciting Azerbaijani Shakrhiyar Mamedyarov. The shock defeat happened in Round 7 with Erigaisi breaking through with the brilliant 27.Qf7+ counter-attack, bravely ignoring Carlsen’s apparent queen and rook threat down the b-file. Judit Polgar was widely praised for her Candidates commentaries on, and the all-time No 1 woman had another vintage moment, captured in an enjoyable video, when she met Carlsen in an informal blitz game in a park during the Norwegian’s flying visit to Madrid. So will Magnus play Nepo again, or will he give up the world title and aim to secure his legacy by reaching his personal Everest of 2900 rating points? The debate continues … A Nepo v Naka match would have been available, with even a small eventual chance of the dream publicity pairing Carlsen v Nakamura, Sauron v Frodo. If Nakamura, the streamer with 1.4 million followers, had made the obvious drawing rook exchanges on the d file in Monday’s final round at Madrid instead of tilting into defeat against Ding, Fide’s negotiating position would have been hugely improved. If negotiations fail, a Nepomniachtchi v Ding match at Beijing-Moscow, or even Shanghai-Vladivostok like the 2020 women’s world championship, will be perceived as a poor substitute for a match featuring the charismatic Norwegian. New York 2016, London 2018 and Dubai 2021 all attracted large online viewing audiences, as did Madrid 2022 last week. A more relevant date may be 7 August, the day of the Fide presidential election in Chennai, when Arkady Dvorkovich’s main rival for a second term will be a ticket whose No 2 is Carlsen’s chief aide Peter-Heine Nielsen.įide needs Carlsen much more than Carlsen needs Fide. That has advantages I’ll talk about later, including the fact that I can view my tasks in any text editor. I have my NV preferences set so that each note is stored as a plain text file in a folder called “notes,” so when I create my task as a note in NV, I’m actually creating a plain *.txt file with the note title as the file name. Imagine a text editor that doubles as a Finder window and Spotlight, and you’ve almost imagined what an awesome tool NV is. If you already use Notational Velocity, you know how fast and easy this process is if you aren’t familiar with NV, it’s free, easy to download, and easiest to understand when you’re actually using it. Within the note itself, I then put any associated information about the task: notes, hashtags, contexts, links, due dates, whatever. When I need to create a new task, here’s what I do on my Mac: I use Notational Velocity to create a note whose title is my task. ![]() In my system, each of my tasks is the name of a plain text file. In other plain text GTD systems, a task might be a line in a list contained in a text file. In Things, each of my tasks was an item in a database that also had separate fields for tags, notes, and a due date. The core principle of my GTD system is this: every task gets its own plain text file, whose filename is the name of the action I need to take. But this does allow me to replicate the way I was using Things, with some added advantages I didn’t even know I was missing. I should stress that I do not claim that this system fully replaces the functionality of Things, which remains a good piece of software. That’s when I started developing the following system. I was also reluctant to shell out at least another $20 for the iPad version. ![]() I began thinking about alternatives to Things, though, when I got an iPod Touch, and then an iPad, and joined the legions of Cultured Code followers waiting longingly for cloud synchronization (which is now apparently coming soon). I used it much like Shawn Blanc used to and Ryan Cordell does, so if you’re not familiar with the program, start there. Even today, I still think Things is a great program. When version 1.0 appeared and quickly began winning awards, I gladly shelled out the asking price. I got hooked on Things when it was still in free beta. I started using Things at the same time I was introduced to GTD, in the Spring of 2008. Again, for a short introduction, see elsewhere. This post does just what its title says, so if terms like GTD, Things, and Notational Velocity mean nothing to you, you may want to move along: there’s nothing to see here but an excruciating display of plain-text nerdiness.īut if you are looking for a way to implement the Getting Things Done approach to task-management on your computer without spending much (or any) money, if you are a devoted user of Things by Cultured Code who has begun to toy with alternatives that support cloud synchronization, and/or if you secretly thrill to posts like this one, read on. What’s great with Boxcryptor is that it’s invisible. It’s available for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. In a nutshell, Boxcryptor is a service that will sit between your files, on your computer, and your cloud provider–they claim to work with most if not all cloud services–and they will encrypt your files before syncing them with your cloud. It’s just the lack of a stricter legislation that makes it such this Wild West and this Eldorado for those companies, giving them free rein over our data.
